Solitary Bee Poem written by Claire Morgan for Solitary Bee Week 2019

I’m a solitary bee and I love flying around,

I’m yellow and black and make a buzzing sound,

I don’t make honey and I’m not a bumblebee,

But I am very important so please don’t kill me!

We make up the largest population of bees,

I’m known for pollinating crops, flowers and trees,

We’re good to have around as we rarely sting,

Just leave us to drink nectar and do our thing.

There’s mason, leafcutter, and mining bees,

Carpenter, carder but never a queen bee.

We don’t have a colony and like a lonely nest,

Please help us survive as we really are the best!
