I AM A SOLITARY BEE

Written by Peter Gaskell (Marks Hall Volunteer) for Solitary Bee Week 2019.

I AM A SOLITARY BEE,

I LIVE ALL ON MY OWN,

AND WHEN MY DAY IS OVER,

THERE’S NO ONE ELSE AT HOME.

WE OFTEN LIVE IN TINY HOLES,

IN WALLS OR UNDERGROUND,

I HAVE A BIJOU RESIDENCE,

IN MARKS HALL THAT I FOUND.

YOU’LL SEE ME BUZZING ROUND THE FLOWERS,

WHENEVER IT IS SUNNY,

I NEED A LOT OF NECTAR,

BUT I DON’T MAKE ANY HONEY.

WHAT USE ARE SOLITARY BEES,

IF NOT AS HONEY MAKERS?

THE ANSWER IS QUITE PLAIN,

YOU SEE,

WE’RE FIRST CLASS POLLINATORS
